Some passengers from Mexico to JFK walk off flight without clearing customs
In a major fiasco, officials at the JFK Airport in New York City let 150 passengers arriving from an global flight, from Cancun, Mexico, leave the airport without going through customs, reported the Daily News.
“None of us went through immigration or customs”, a passenger told The News, adding, “There were no signs for customs or anything”.
Norwegian Airlines Flight 7055 arrived in Orlando from Copenhagen at about 2 p.m.
Thomas also stressed that post-flight customs is the last step in the airline’s security process, stating, “We… work closely with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) who vet all passengers prior to boarding any aircraft with a destination in the United States”. She said she noticed something wasn’t right when she got off the plane.
“None of us went through immigration or customs”.
Upon realizing tits error, American Airlines contacted the flight passengers and instructed them to return to JFK for proper processing.
The security gaffe came just two days after ISIS released a disturbing video threatening NY with a terrorist attack and one week after 130 people died in the horrifying Paris siege.
OIA officials said there was an incident and that all passengers have been accounted for.
When the plane landed, some of the passengers left the airport without having their passports or bags checked through U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to a spokesperson for American Airlines. CBP officers immediately responded to the incident and ensured all passengers and their luggage were processed through the federal inspection area before leaving the airport.
“CBP and JFK airline security personnel and the airport authority are conducting an investigation regarding the incident and will implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future”, Bucci stated.
