The Winter Storm Watch will begin at noon on Wednesday and continue through 4 p.m. Thursday.
Snowfall amounts of 4 to 7 inches are possible, along with 35 to 45 miles per hour wind gusts into Wednesday evening, causing drifting snow.
A blizzard warning means falling and blowing snow combined with strong winds will create poor visibility and could lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely unsafe.
While areas like New England will see some snow and ice related to Winter Storm Petros, most regions along the East Coast will instead be subjected to heavy rain throughout Wednesday and Thursday. The north and west suburbs will get less than an inch of snow, the city and south suburbs are expected to get between 1-6 inches of snow, the far south suburbs will get at least 6 inches of snow and northwest IN could see up to 12 inches of snow, Butler said. Other reported estimates and measures taken in Huron County included 11 inches in Sebewaing, 10.5 in Pigeon, 9.5 in Harbor Beach and 8 in Bad Axe. The western half of Manitoulin Island will miss the brunt of this storm and escape with only a few centimetres of snow.
Travelling conditions are expected to quickly deteriorate Wednesday as the precipitation arrives.
