Son kills mother, himself at assisted living center
It was 5:44 p.m. when police responded to a report of a shooting at Genesis HealthCare’s Voorhees Center on the 3000 block of Evesham Road in Voorhees.
Police in Camden County have confirmed two people, a mother and son, are dead after a murder-suicide shooting at an assisted living facility in Vorhees Sunday night. They have identified the victim as Andree Buller, 85, a resident at the assisted living facility.
When he returned, 6ABC reports, the man allegedly shot his mother before turning the gun on himself.
The facility went into lockdown immediately after shots rang out, and Voorhees deputy police chief Bill Donnelly later praised the staff for its handling of the situation.
No one else was injured in the shooting, which occurred in the woman’s room around 6 p.m., NBC reported. Buller then went to his vehicle after dinner. “At this point that’s what we’re speculating because he did leave the facility and come back inside”. A nurse who ran into the room then saw him shoot and kill himself, authorities said.
According to its website, the Voorhees Center’s programs and services include transitional care, short stay and long term care, cardiac management, and memory and dementia care.
“I feel awful”, Mike Vizoco, whose father lives at the nursing home, said.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. “Just scared. I didn’t know what happened to my dad”.
