Son of executed Alabama killer arrested on murder charge: AP reports
BRENT, Ala. (AP) Authorities in central Alabama are searching for an inmate who escaped during a work assignment at prison in Bibb County. Hubbard is accused of killing her sister, 30-year-old Kandi Murphy, while seizing Carpenter on Tuesday afternoon.
Bibb County District Attorney Michael Jackson says 45-year-old Gary Wade Rowland of Centreville faces a charge of being an accomplice to his cousin, 60-year-old John Barry Hubbard.
State officers busted in the door of a motel off Interstate 20/59 to arrest Hubbard and free 46-year-old Tammy Carpenter.
Authorities say Hubbard went to the home, forced Carpenter into his vehicle and shot the other woman.
King says Rowland was arrested without incident Thursday morning and is being held without bond in the Bibb County jail.
Court records show Carpenter filed a restraining order against Hubbard about two months ago, but the request was denied.
Hubbard is being charged with capital murder and kidnapping.
