Sonia Gandhi’s health had worsened on plane to Delhi
She has been put under the care of a team of doctors from the Department of Pulmonology.
She had to cut short the roadshow towards the fag end of the eight-km march route as she fell ill in the midst of the rally and was taken to a lodge, where doctors attended to her and advised her rest.
Earlier today, the Congress party said that Sonia Gandhi, who developed high fever during her road show in Varanasi, is now stable and recovering. Sonia was expected to return to Delhi at the earliest. She is dehydrated but is presently stable and further investigations are being conducted.
A health bulletin issued by the Ganga Ram Hospital stated that Gandhi’s condition was stable.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, were by her side at the Army hospital, while her son-in-law Robert Vadra visited her in the morning.
Sources told ANI that Prime Minister Modi also spoke to Sheila Dikshit, and enquired about Gandhi’s health. This was Sonia’s first-ever visit in a decade to Varanasi as she chose to launch the party campaign from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency.
“Yesterday itself, she had said that she would return to Varanasi to meet the people and to have “darshan” of the historical temple of Kashi Vishwanath Ji”.
Senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had yesterday informed the media that she suffered a bout of “dehydration, vomited and had high fever”, which made her cancel the road show.
