Sony and Verizon cancel launch of Xperia Z4v smartphone
Verizon took the veil off of the Sony Xperia Z4v just about 4 months ago, saying that it would be coming in the summer.
Neither Sony nor Verizon Wireless would ever provide a solid launch date for the Xperia Z4v and now we know why: because the phone isn’t ever going to launch. The mobile carrier unveiled the Xperia Z4v back in June, and was being sold as an upgraded version of the Z4. “Verizon is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio”. The device is powered by octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 3 GB of RAM and houses a massive 3,000mAh battery that includes Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology. The handset has impressive specifications that consumers in the United States will no longer be able to experience.
For its part, Verizon does say that it will continue to work with Sony moving forward, and that the company is a strategic partner for the wireless carrier. The only handset available now is a pre-owned Xperia Z1S from T-Mobile.
Reported via Engadget, it is said that a Sony representative confirmed that Verizon and Sony have made a decision to cancel the plans. It really couldn’t have competed with the Xperia Z5 models.
Although canceling the Xperia Z4v makes sense, given the fact that the higher- end Z5 family was already launched, we think that it still would have been a great Sony device and it would have been exactly what a few users are looking for.
