Sony Announces Price Drop For The Playstation 4
Back in September, Sony announced a price drop for the system in Japan during the Tokyo Game Show leading many to believe that a price cut was on the way stateside.
The announced price drop will take effect on Friday, October 9 and it also includes PlayStation 4 game bundles as well.
“Since the launch of PS4, we have been thrilled with the amount of gamers jumping into the world of PlayStation for the first time”, said Sony’s John Koller. This price cut affects all other PS4 bundles as well. For example, the bundle including Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will retail for $349.99 (CAD $429.99), In this case, the game is a freebie.
This change seems random – the Uncharted, Battlefront, and Disney Infinity bundles have all been discounted by $50, but the Call of Duty and Darth Vader-Lookin’ PS4s are down a mere $20. In addition to the U.S., Sony also cut PS4 prices in Canada from $449.99 to $429.99.
Within the next several days, we will likely have the figures for September sales for the PS4 and Xbox One. Now the PS4 now costs £349 in the United Kingdom and €399 in Europe. The final bundle is the National Hockey League 16 PS4 bundle and sells for $429.99 CAD and is available in Canada only.
The holiday season is fast approaching, and that means it is time for the big console makers to start slashing prices in preparation for the frenzied buying spree that keeps the lights on for at least a few more months.
Microsoft, in many ways, has the superior game lineup this holiday season.
PS4 consoles trounced Xbox One after the new generation consoles hit the market in late 2013. Microsoft, meanwhile, hasn’t given an update on Xbox One sales since November, when it hit 10 million. With the PS4 about to celebrate its second birthday in November, this move is something that mimics similar price cuts for the PlayStation 3 at the same point in its lifetime. The Xbox One has begun selling for $349.99 since June this year.
