Sony is adding PS4 games to its PlayStation Now cloud gaming service
Sony has announced that the PS Now service that allows players to enjoy PS3 games is now expanding to offer PS4 titles as well. Reports point out that the streaming game catalog is now expanded.
Sony’s PS Now currently lets people stream almost 500 PS3 games from their PlayStation 4 gaming consoles, instead of having to download each game. Sony recently removed the ability to do it on televisions and other devices besides PlayStation devices and Windows PC.
The new feature will start with a private test – if you have an active subscription, you may receive an email – before launch.
It hasn’t, however, been confirmed it this will also incur an increase to the price of PlayStation Now, which currently sits at £12.99 per month.
When Sony made a decision to start offering PlayStation 3 games via online streaming through the PlayStation Now service, it provided players who prefer to rent games instead of buying them a decent option. Hopefully Sony’s compression method doesn’t distort the video too much as we often see with high-detailed games on YouTube these days.
Sony announced that it is discontinuing such services to be able to better focus on developing PS4 and PC platforms.
The addition of PlayStation 4 games will no doubt attract attention to the service from a wider audience.
Bringing PS4 games to PlayStation Now appears to be Sony’s answer to Xbox Game Pass. For now, the company will kick off a beta test, with invites said to go out to select PlayStation Now subscribers.
They’ve also updated the service to enable cloud saves, so you can pick up and finish your game whether you’re playing on PS4 or on PC.
Mr Caldwell cautioned gamers to try the service before they took up a subscription, as it requires fast net-connection speeds to work well.
