Sony is Done Developing for the PS Vita
“Since third parties are working very hard on PS Vita, SCE’s own strategy is to focus on PS4”.
Sony’s executive vice president claims that the company is done developing first-party games for the PlayStation Vita, leaving Vita support to other devs instead.
It’s been obvious for years, but Sony has admitted it is now not working on any new PS Vita titles itself and has no plans to do so in the future.
But the handheld, despite Sony’s best intentions, has never found much success as the home of big budget handheld games.
As we all expected, something is rotten in Denmark when it comes to Sony’s position on the PlayStation Vita.
Many also point to the rise in mobile gaming as the cause for the PS Vita’s low sales. In fact, one of the few critically acclaimed Vita exclusives remaining is being ported to the PS4, in Gravity Rush HD.

Ito said that because the current PS4 machine uses X86 architecture (unlike the PS3’s Cell processor), it’s feasible that improvements could be made over time.
How do you feel about Sony no longer supporting the PlayStation Vita with first-party titles?
This echoes what PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida said at E3: “I wouldn’t say we will have big AAA Vita games from first party”.
