Sony launches Xperia XZ Premium smartphone
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) announcements keep on coming and Sony may have just won the show with its Xperia XZ Premium handset.
The Xperia Z5 Premium’s 4K screen may have been ahead of its time when it launched back in 2015.
The battery is at 2900mAh, while all other specifications are similar to the Xperia XZ Premium. The talented main camera gets a 19 megapixel 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor while the front camera gets a 13 megapixel 1/3.06-inch F 2.0 sensor. The phone also runs on Android 7.1 Nougat, and is IP68 rated too.
Like the standard Xperia XZ, the Xperia XZ Premium has a fingerprint scanner embedded under the power button.
They also share a new “borderless” design with an nearly continuous curve around the edges and will arive in white, black, pink and gold. It is also quite a bit lighter, weighing 180g.
There have been a few firms to use Sony’s tech in the past, such as Apple, Samsung, LG and Xiaomi. There were no XZ demo units available to play around with at Sony’s booth, although we can tell you the phone includes the same slow-mo camera as the XZ Premium but drops the 4K HDR display spec. It also offers Predictive Capture, Predictive Hybrid Autofocus and a SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode. Both XA devices feature 23-megapixel rear-facing cameras, which Sony claims will “surpass camera expectations”. It’s called the Xperia XZ Premium and it has all the right features that we expect high-end Android devices to offer in this first part of the year in terms of hardware and software.
The Xperia XA1 forms the mid-range offering in Sony’s portfolio. Again, microSD is on board, along with a slightly larger battery than the XZ Premium at 3430mAh.
The Xperia XZs will also be available starting in April 2017. The only device which did not see an update was the Xperia X. Sony’s Xperia XZ is official folks and you can take a look at its camera sensors below. Shooting slow motion videos and shots of friends in insane low light is awesome, but is it worth a move to Sony from Samsung or Apple or even LG?
After having a slow 2016, the Tokyo-based smartphone manufacturer has released its new flagship which boasts of a lot of firsts for the smartphone world – including the ability to shoot videos in slow-motion.
