Sony PlayStation 4 will have PS2 backwards compatibility
Despite this, a few players still clamour to relive the classic era in gaming while others simply want to play the games they may have missed out on.
Sony unveiled in the news website Wired that they are now working on a way to bring the PlayStation 2 games into the PS4. Over 100 Xbox 360 games have been made available for Xbox One gamers since it launched earlier this month, which is more appealing because the games are more recent, but there are only a small portion of those games that I myself would like to pick up and play again.
We’ve included a video below, in which Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry team analyse the emulation software being used in the Star Wars Classic titles, concluding that Sony‘s technical team has been impressive in managing to achieve a stable 60FPS framerate higher than the original titles – whilst being emulated.
We’ve reached out to Sony for more information and will update should we hear back.
We look ahead to PlayStation Experience 2015 now, which is due to start between December 5 and 6 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
Long rumored to be coming for the PS4, Sony confirmed that they are working on emulation mechanics that will allow the PS4 console to have backwards compatibility to support older games for the PlayStation 2. “We have nothing further to comment at this point in time”, a Sonny representative said.
Sony is already bringing their backward compatibility strategy to a particular PS4 bundle like “Star Wars: Battlefront.’ The game contains a selection of classic games such as “Super Star Wars”, “Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter”, ‘Star Wars: Bounty Hunter”, and ‘Star Wars: Racer Revenge’. The ports play without a hitch so far so this could prove to be a good endeavor for Sony.
