Sony Scraps Xperia Z Series, Replaces It with Xperia X Family
So far, all we know about the Sony Xperia X and XA’s release date is that it’ll be some time in the summer, but Sony wasn’t sharing anything more specific than that.
Sony has showed off a lot of its brand new devices during the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Spain, including a variety of mid-to-high range phones.
In a statement to techradar, the company said that it has entered a “new chapter” with the X series, but it hasn’t ruled out the possibility of an Xperia Z6 appearing in the future.
The Sony Xperia X Performance features a 5 inch, full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, a 2,700 mAh battery, a waterproof design, and a microSD card slot. That’s because the Xperia XA has an edge to edge screen, and that is so obvious that you move the phone around your hand for some time when you pick it up for the first time.
Both smartphones offer the next generation Xperia camera, with super-fast and sharp spontaneous photos, and the Xperia X goes on to add Predictive Hybrid Autofocus into the mix. Apparently X is the new Z… because Sony has no plans to offer an Xperia Z6. Probably. There won’t be an Xperia Z6 at any rate, at least according to the statement that the company gave to XperiaBlog. Would you rather see them release an Xperia Z6?
As for the hardware, the Xperia X is equipped with a Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.
The phone is available in four colours and apart from the lime gold (a metallic yellow) that we were definitely not a fan of, the white, graphite black and rose gold looked very good.
Meanwhile the XA has a MediaTek MT6755 octacore processor. Sony claims two-day battery-life for all three models.
