Sony unveils new mid range smartphones Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M5
We’re withholding judgement until we try the devices ourselves, as Sony‘s attractive specs have a habit of translating into not-quite picture flawless cameras.
The world had its first glimpse of the upcoming Sony Xperia C5 Ultra courtesy of the Sao Paulo police in Brazil.
So without further ado, here are Sony’s new phones.
Much like the Xperia C5 Ultra, the Xperia M5 also features a 13-megapixel front-facing camera with Sony’s Exmor RS sensor.
The Sony Xperia M5 is the sequel to the storage-squeezing Xperia M4 Aqua, and comes with IP65 and IP68 certification to offer resistance against dust and water. One of them is the C5 Ultra and the other is the Sony Xperia Z5, the company’s next generation flagship for 2015.
The second phone in the leak was the Xperia M5, which looks similar to the Z3+ (also called the Z4 in Japan and the Z4v in the USA).
The Xperia M5 sports a 21.5MP rear camera as well as a 13MP front camera, and this model features a waterproof and dust-proof case. This includes a 5x clear image zoom, hybrid autofocus, automatic scene recognition and 4K HDR video capture, this is definitely one for photo professionals. The phone’s 6-inch display outputs at 1920×1080 resolution, plus it’s powered by an unnamed 1.7 GHz Octa-core processor with a 2930mAh battery to keep it all working.
The 5in Sony Xperia M5 has a slightly smaller battery at 2600mAh but a more powerful processor and rear camera than the Xperia C5 Ultra. This phone has 16 GB of built-in memory that can be expanded up to 200 GB with a microSD card, and is also available in a dual-SIM version.
The Xperia M5 is for those want a device that will catch the eye of others, as it has a mostly-glass build and gold color option.
Besides the twin cameras, the Xperia C5 Ultra features an aluminium frame but otherwise comes with midrange specs, including a full HD display at 1920 x 1080 pixels, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a 2930 mAh battery. “We are pleased to present two new products that highlight Sony’s advances in camera technology”, said Tony McNulty, Vice-President, Value Category Business Management at Sony Mobile Communications.
