Sorry, That Electoral College Petition Won’t Stop A Trump Presidency
At least 30 of the states have rules that attempt to bind electors to the will of the people of their states.
The Establishment Media at first dismissed Trump’s politics as just another sideshow. Greg Abbott carried it by four points in the 2014 governor’s race, and Mitt Romney essentially tied Obama there in 2012. John Kasick, governor of OH, made a buffoon of himself by voting for John McCain of Arizona.
Voters in those states didn’t have the proper opportunity to hear from either Clinton or Trump on issues.
At every point in USA history, there has been at least one group of people left behind. The Bush family was anti Trump. If it was fair to demand that Barack Obama distance himself from a minister who criticized America’s abhorrent history when it comes to racial justice and a 1960s radical he barely knew, then it is fair to require that Donald Trump demonstrate he doesn’t link arms with people who like white sheets and hoods, swastikas and burning crosses. Paul Ryan would not even include Trump at a speaking engagement in Wisconsin. However, I read one account after another of women working like insane to elect Trump.
If the former were opposed to NAFTA and free-trade deals they saw as contributing to unemployment, the latter were opposed to seismic culture shifts that seemed to threaten traditional values, including patriotism, family, church and other institutions.
“I’m concerned, but I’m also not because every president’s term is mostly run by the government”.
I think it is important to remember why Clinton didn’t win.
Those words did just come out of my mouth and I do not regret them. I thought he was a sensational cheerleader during the World Series.
Even if you consider the fact that the Constitution doesn’t specifically require all electors to go with the victor of their states as a gray area, most constitutional and voting experts predict the electors aren’t likely to be swayed for two main reasons: 1) There’s not much precedent 2) electors are typically deeply entrenched in state political parties.
The Voters allowed themselves to be led by Trump who appealed to their frustration with establishment politics and their alienation from government. “And I congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard-fought campaign”. This could have backfired because people do not watch as much television as they used to, now that there are paid subscription services such as Netflix. He also instilled the fear that Hillary Clinton would take away the Second Amendment right if she became president, something no president could do under the Constitution.
In a state like OH, which Trump won at about a 54.5-45.5 margin, theoretically they could have split the electoral votes 10-8 or some ratio that reflected the tallies in the congressional districts. Clinton was judged harshly by voters, especially a core constituency in her party, and she generated precious little enthusiasm across much of the electorate; the authors of The American Voter surely would have predicted there was a real risk she could lose. He announced he would self-fund his campaign and introduced his slogan “Make America Great Again”. We have the power of voting.
Yet, despite those hard facts circulating throughout social media and mainstream media, many pundits and private citizens have the impulse to direct their blame squarely at minority voters, believing that their lack of Obama-level enthusiasm is what cost the Democrats their shot at the White House. As The Hill reported on Tuesday, Clinton over-performed Obama in urban areas in Florida and Pennsylvania, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Trump’s enormous vote totals in rural areas. They could hardly wait for the election. She not only lost many votes among low-educated working-class women, but she failed to get the votes she needed among suburban college-educated women.
And then there was the YouTube link sent to Shook and dozens of other “Moral Electors” purporting to be from Trump. Still, the white demographic, which constituted about 70 percent of eligible voters this year, is the one that won the election for Trump. I might have faced discrimination at times, but I don’t face it on a daily basis like many other Americans.
