South Africa’s Desmond Tutu Remains Hospitalized With Infection
The infection was not connected with the prostate cancer that Archbishop Tutu has lived with for 15 years, she said, but it was “below the belt”.
South African President Jacob Zuma has wished Archbishop (Emeritus) Desmond Tutu a speedy recovery following his admission to a hospital for an undisclosed illness, the Presidency said Thursday.
The eighty-three year old was admitted to Cape Town hospital on Tuesday where he is receiving an “intensive course” of antibiotics. It is uncertain how long he will remain in hospital, she said.
“Because his doctors are quite confident that they will be able to land on treatment for the infection, my anxiety levels are quite low”.
“So many people have sent so much love and prayers and these are carrying us along”, she said, adding that she had not had “the real space to worry” but that her mother had been feeling “anxious”.
The foundation, named after the anti-apartheid activist and his wife, thanked the public for the support received.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for campaigning against apartheid in South Africa, and later played a key role in its downfall.
