South Carolina game moves to Baton Rouge
Multiple sources say South Carolina is weighing another option of playing the game in Baton Rouge, but the Gamecocks’ first preference would be to play at home.
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said his players, assistants and staffers also came through the flooding mostly unscathed.
Details for the game, including kickoff time, are being finalized with officials from LSU and the SEC.
“Unfortunately, our community can closely relate to what South Carolina is facing right now, and we want to do everything we can to make them feel welcome and provide a few sense of normalcy during this time”.
The organizers in Columbia viewed the Fairgrounds and Williams-Brice Stadium as a safe place to play the game, but the larger issues of security, volunteers, water sanitization, and other game-day elements would put an undue stress on the infrastructure of the state and capital city.
LSU’s sideline reporter Gordy Rush, marketing manager for Guaranty Broadcasting, said on a Baton Rouge radio station on Tuesday that it’s possible LSU could fly into Columbia on Saturday before the game and fly out immediately afterward, the Advocate reported.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. Saturday in Williams-Brice Stadium on ESPN. “And they may been cleaning the floors this week, dealing with insurance all week”, said Erick Hedrick, owner of Bengals and Bandits.
The extreme flooding in South Carolina may cause officials at the University of South Carolina to move this weekend’s matchup between the Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers.
South Carolina athletic teams are rallying together to help those in their community affected by the floods from last weekend. “Our prayers and concerns continue to be with people throughout the entire state of South Carolina whose lives have been dramatically impacted by this devastating weather event”. The general public can buy them starting at 5:00 p.m. “Again, our intentions are to stay on schedule and play here in Columbia, but it’s not a definite”. There has also been no mention of South Carolina’s game on October 17, a home contest against Vanderbilt.
“We’re fortunate where I live, there were no problems getting in and out”, Spurrier said Tuesday morning at a press conference.
