South Carolina Republicans Want Graham to Quit White House Run
With the exception of Carson, Trump polled vastly better in a one-on-one match up against the other GOP candidates. He captured just 4 percent among the state’s Republican primary voters in that poll, and only 35 percent reported having a favorable view of him, compared to 50 percent who said they had an unfavorable view.
Even worse is the fact that Graham’s rival, businessman Donald Trump – who infamously gave out Graham’s personal cell phone number on television – is favored over Graham by South Carolina voters at a 72-20 split.
That makes him one of only three Republican presidential candidates who didn’t make the cut for the Heritage Action forum, the others being former Virginia governor Jim Gilmore and former New York governor George Pataki. At the time, some poll participants said they would rather Graham remain a senator, Winthrop Poll director Scott Huffmon said.
Only 36 percent of likely primary voters said they approved of the job he’s doing as senator, down from 54 percent in February.
He registered zero percent in five of six national polls last month compiled by Real Clear Politics.
“It’s pretty remarkable to have folks that unified around the idea of Lindsey Graham dropping out”, Jensen said.
Graham’s campaign could not be reached for comment.
The survey finds that Graham’s presidential run may have also damaged his image in the state.
Nine percent of S.C. Democratic primary voters said they would pick U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tie for third with 6 percent support each, followed by a trio of Carly Fiorina, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen.
Also struggling in the state: Bernie Sanders.
“The religious Nazis running Iran faced no consequences for their actions”, Graham said, referring to 2009 pro-democracy protests, known collectively as the Green Movement, that were crushed by the Iranian regime. “But believe me, they knew exactly who they were dealing with”.
