South Carolina shifts game to LSU
The very fact that Saturday’s South Carolina-LSU game will be played at Tiger Stadium will make for an unusual spectacle, given that the contest was supposed to take place at the Gamecocks’ Williams-Brice Stadium.
The SEC Network had planned on hosting its “SEC Nation” show from South Carolina on Saturday, but moved to Knoxville, Tennessee because of the floods.
Tanner said logistical issues like roadways that have been washed away by the water and whether there would be enough first-responder personnel available to handle the typical duties like traffic and crowd control on game day.
LSU heard suggestions they should paint the field South Carolina colors, but Alleva said the school couldn’t do that because the Tigers play Florida at home the next week.
The time for Saturday’s game at LSU has not been announced.
“We want to do the right thing and do what is best for all concerned”, USC head coach Steve Spurrier said in a statement.
South Carolina is scheduled to host LSU in Columbia this Saturday, and that still appears to be the plan.
The game was relocated from Columbia, S.C.to Baton Rouge because of flooding in Columbia.
While USC’s Williams-Brice Stadium is in good shape, Athletic Director Ray Tanner said Tuesday that there are concerns about the roads and safety of fans and that the game could be moved to another city. Expect to see the LSU Tigers play even more aggressively in front of their home-crowd. It’s a move that helps LSU as it looks to remain undefeated against a Gamecocks squad looking to get back on track after a sluggish 2-3 start. “We are certainly following it and hoping for their community and the entire state of South Carolina”.
“We’re talking hundreds of millions (of dollars), maybe over a billion”, he said. And so, coach, I do think it’s appropriate that this game was scheduled between Louisiana and South Carolina, because we don’t just share a game and a conference, we shared an event together, although it’s separated by 10 years.
