South Florida vs. Central Florida
The battle of the I-4 corridor comes to a head Thursday night as the Bulls and Knights meet up on the gridiron to kick off ESPN’s Rivalry Week.
South Florida (7-4) looks to keep UCF (0-11) winless on the season. Quinton Flowers is completing 60.4 percent of his passes for 1,841 yards, 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions. And after UCF turned it over on downs, Flowers threw a twenty-six yard touchdown pass to Price.
When we previewed the game, we asked whether who would have more yards: USF’s Marlon Mack (the overwhelming favorite), USF’s Quinton Flowers (who got a substantial number of votes) or the entire UCF offense (sigh).
South Florida’s Chris Barr (1) slips past Central Florida’s Jerod Boykins (47) to score a touchdown during the first quarter of an NCAA college football game Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, in Orlando, Fla. It’s a testament to coach Taggart, his staff and all the players. He converted No. 31 with a 26-yard strike to Price, who has five TD catches in his last four games after totaling one his first three seasons on campus. They struggled on third down as well, converting just two of 11. “He was ice cold out there today, making plays whenever we needed them”.
The Bulls are playing for the chance to get in the AAC title game.
USF’s offense, meanwhile, ran and passed as it pleased for most of the game.
D’Ernest Johnson ran 18 yards on the first play, Flowers hit Johnson with a screen pass good for 14 on the second play and Flowers scrambled for 14 yards to set up Nadelman’s field goal attempt as time expired.
USF scored touchdowns on its first two possessions of the second half to push the lead to 41-3 and then went on cruise control. Central Florida is a complete mess, whether they have quarterback Justin Holman (ankle) or not. The sophomore running back has given the top defenses in the AAC nightmares and the UCF defense should expect to have the same issues.
UCF wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith is no stranger to circus catches, having climbed a Tulsa defender’s back from the front to make an incredible grab earlier in November.
