South Korean president set for rescheduled October summit with Obama
A Cheong Wa Dae spokesman said Obama re-invited Park to Washington.
Park’s visit on October 16 will be her second to the White House following a formal state visit in 2013.
President Obama and President Park will exchange views on a broad range of security, economic, and global issues, including the U.S.-ROK alliance and the critical role it plays in assuring regional stability and security.
Their talks will also cover the security situation on the Korean Peninsula in the face of continued threats from North Korea against U.S. ally South Korea. The virus has killed 36 people and the government came under fire for its poor initial response to the outbreak.
Experts in the U.S. and South Korea have become increasingly concerned about North Korea’s nuclear activities.
The military made clear the ongoing exercises are designed to deter North Korean provocations such as the planting of three land mines in the southern border of the demilitarized zone near Paju, Gyeonggi.
Defense Minister Han Min-koo was barraged with questions during a hearing at the parliamentary defense committee when he failed to say when President Park Geun-hye had been briefed about the mine explosions last week.
