South Snohomish softball team accused of losing on goal
The Little League World Series erupted into scandal on Monday when the Southeast team shockingly defeated the undefeated U.S. West team 8-0 – wow, underdogs, sports are great! According to multiple reports from Iowa newspapers and local TV, Washington lost on objective to force a three-way tie in the that would eliminate the Iowa team Washington wanted to avoid in a potential rematch in the championship game.
But the Washington coach’s plan was foiled after the Iowa team appealed to Little League global and it was ruled their team would play the Washington team in a playoff at noon EST on Tuesday in Portland, Ore.
“It’s clear to everyone that they basically threw the game”, Chadd told the Des Moines Register.
“It’s not the girls’ fault”, Chadd said.
Despite getting a second chance, Chadd told the Des Moines Register on Monday that he still wasn’t happy that the Washington team wasn’t disqualified.
Little League Softball World Series officials did not overturn the outcome of the controversial game.
South Snohomish Little League president Jeff Taylor denied any wrongdoing in a report by The (Everett) Herald, saying South Snohomish coach Fred Miller opted to rest some starters who had been playing in tournaments for more than three months. “It was very evident right away what was going on”.
