South Warwickshire crash driver rescued after auto hangs over bridge
A man was trapped in his auto and hanging 20 feet above a river for an hour after losing control on the road outside Wellesbourne on Saturday.
“Considering the position of the vehicle the driver is extremely fortunate the auto did not continue over the edge into the river below”, said the spokesman.
The auto was teetering on the edge of the bridge and was in danger of dropping in to the river below after the crash on the A429 between Wellesbourne and Barford, in Warwickshire, at 5.45am this morning.
“The man was extricated from the auto with the assistance of the fire service and once released received further treatment at the scene”.
Before emergency teams could treat the driver, they had to tie the auto to other vehicles with ropes.
The teenager was then placed on the vehicle’s stretcher and driven back through the hard terrain to the waiting ambulance which transported him to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.
A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a teenager who had suffered some sort of medical episode and had subsequently suffered cuts to his legs and a suspected chest injury”.
“The hospital had been alerted to the patient’s condition and his injuries”.
