Southampton: Ronald Koeman will not leave for Netherlands job
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that Shane Long is facing as least a fortnight on the sidelines after picking up an ankle ligament injury in the 2-1 defeat to Poland on Sunday.
Guus Hiddink left his job earlier in the camapign, for Danny Blind to now lead Oranje, and having missed out on qualification for the Finals tournament, many think Koeman should take the job – considering he is now the most talented Dutch coach around. “There’s no way, no possibility [I could leave]”.
“Maybe (I could be the Holland manager) in the future, but depending on a lot of things”.
“It was an unlucky start to the season but now I hope I can show my qualities on the pitch and I can show the fans what I have”, the 24-year-old went on to say.
He is also optimistic that the most promising of his summer signings will add qualities to his team that they have otherwise been missing, and at a time when the club’s prospects are again looking strong. We don’t have a football name on the board of the (KNVB) federation, it’s insane. “I can tell everybody – I told it already – I’m happy at Southampton, I’m the coach of Southampton and next season I will be the coach at Southampton, and then in my previous year of contract we will see what happens”.
Koeman is a talented manager, who seems a ideal fit for Southampton’s behind the scenes set-up, but he has been linked with taking over the Netherlands in recent months, considering their terrible Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.
“It’s important for him to be 100 per cent physically”.
