Southern Guilford High School student dies after collapsing during tryout
Multiple media outlets report 14-year-old Allison Brown collapsed at Southern Guilford High School about 9:15 a.m. Thursday and died at Moses Cone Hospital.
Allison Brown, a rising freshman at Southern Guilford High School in Greensboro, collapsed during day two of the school’s cross country tryouts. Athletic director Leigh Hebbard said the weather conditions were well within Guilford County Schools guidelines for warm weather practices.
Allison’s former middle school basketball coach said she was one of the top players on the girls’ team.
“She was a leader”, Hanlon said.
“She would light up a room when she came in”.
Aly Hanlon is a graduate of Northern Guilford Middle School and competed against Allison in both basketball and track.
“The community is very strong and we’ve been in touch with family and friends and students and parents”, Principal Debbie Kraszeski told Fox8.
The cause of her death remained unclear late Thursday evening. “We’re reaching out to everybody as often as much as we can”.
They were available for any student who wanted to talk about the passing of Allison Brown.
“Whether it was on the court or when she was running”, Hanlon said.
Alhough school doesn’t start until August 24, grief counselors will be on campus on Friday for students.
