Southern Oregon Univ. closes campus over ‘threatening message’
According to an e-mail sent to Southern Oregon University students at the Ashland campus that the campus would be closed Wednesday, October 7th due to an unconfirmed threat.
Southern Oregon University would not say what was written in the message, which was found in a women’s bathroom at its main campus in Ashland on Tuesday night. “And we’ve made a decision to take this posture and we stand by it”.
“Classes and other activities on Ashland campus are cancelled”, read a statement posted to the school’s website.
Ashland is about 100 miles south of Roseburg, where nine people were shot and killed at Umpqua Community College last week. Spokespersons have only stated that students were asked to remain in their dormitories as police officers continued their investigation. Counselors are available to meet with students on campus. Although this local facility will be shut down, authorities have reassured that the Higher Education Center in Medford will remain open on Wednesday.
On Monday, all three Rouge Community College campuses closed down due to bomb threats, which turned out to be a hoax.
