SpaceX scouring data for clues to launch pad explosion
“We are continuing to review the data to identify the root cause”.
As it turns out, there is a way to get a policy. The capsule doesn’t have them for ISS supply missions to the International Space Station, and neither do unmanned satellites.
In an email, SES said it “would be happy to launch from Pad 39A”.
Now there is a new twist in the Space X explosion.
The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket explosion at Cape Canaveral on Thursday has been described as a “fast fire” by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
The delay during the investigation will also affect Iridium, a Virginia communications company, which contracted Space X to launch the first 10 satellites of its new telecommunications network.
Shares of Tel Aviv-based Space Communications fell the most since November amid a proposed deal to be acquired by a Chinese conglomerate. Its equity is expected to decline by $30 million to $123 million as well.
In June, NASA’s Office of Inspector General said that having SpaceX do its own investigation “raises questions about inherent conflicts of interest”. Space Communication didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
SpaceX hasn’t said much since the fiery blast consumed its Falcon 9 rocket and its commercial satellite payload. “Certainly, they’re meant to help broaden the addressable market for Facebook, but so far that’s had a very limited impact on user numbers or anything else”, said Jan Dawson, chief analyst with Jackdaw Research.
Falcon 9 is SpaceX’s only launch vehicle available today. “Before they can launch their next mission, they’re going to have to figure out what went wrong with this mission”. Brokers advise companies on the best ways to cover risks.
SpaceX said there were no injuries as a result of the explosion, which it described as an “anomaly”.
The aerospace company is investigating what caused the rocket explosion. The company is now trying to figure out how long it’s going to take to get the site back to normal.
While the blast is likely to disrupt SpaceX plans for six more launches between now and January 2017, experts made clear that such incidents are a normal part of the space learning curve.
Facebook Inc. was planning to use the Amos-6 satellite to spread Internet access in Africa.
United Launch Alliance, a partnership of Lockheed-Martin Corp (LMT.N) and Boeing Co (BA.N) that flies its Atlas rockets at a pad next to SpaceX’s, said on Friday it had inspected its facility and found no damage or concerns. Before then the firm lost several rockets as it attempted to land them upright on an ocean platform at the end of a flight – a crucial part of its strategy for reusable spacecraft.
NASA spokesman Michael Curie said it’s too early to know whether the explosion will impact planned NASA-related SpaceX launches to the International Space Station.
SpaceX now has almost 70 missions on the manifest that are valued at nearly $10 billion so it’s not like the company is hurting for business. One such rocket exploded in June of past year 139 seconds into its flight.
