Spain replace Ramos due to shoulder injury

The injury is a recurrence of the one he suffered in Madrid’s 4-0 UEFA Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk last month.

Real Madrid says its defender Dani Carvajal injured his right ankle during the 1-1 league draw at Atletico Madrid.

But Ramos conceded he might have unwisely pushed for a swift return from the initial injury.

“I am how I am, it’s an injury which needs four weeks and I would be coming back in just over two”, he told reporters as he entered the Las Rozas complex, without any bags. “That’s what the doctors and trainers have to value”.

Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos is the latest player to withdraw from the Spain squad.

“Sergio Ramos is out of the squad due to shoulder pain and will be replaced by his (Real) team-mate Nacho (Ignacio Fernandez)”, the Spanish said on their website.

Viallarreal’s Mario Gaspar was called up to replace Carvajal, while Athletic Bilbao’s Xabier Etxeita and Mikel San Jose come in for Martinez and Soriano respectively.
