Special teams spark Eagles’ stunning upset of Patriots
“We’ve got to do a better job”, Brady said after the loss. “Of course you’re aware of that”, Kelly said.
Philadelphia (5-7) climbed out of a 14-0 hole in the first half by scoring 35 straight points over 30 minutes of game action.
So the New England Patriots have lost their last two games, whether it be the result of injuries or not, fantasy football options are now considerably different than they were earlier in the season. The Patriots would turn the ball over again on their next drive, the second interception by Brady.
“Sort of had a chance there at the end”. “A comeback”, coach Bill Belichick said unenthusiastically. “It’s going to be a good game”.
The Patriots did more damage to themselves than the Eagles ever did on Sunday. The Pats were without almost their entire starting offiensive line, No. 2 running back Dion Lewis, starting slot receiver Julian Edelman and tight end Rob Gronkowski. It’s always sad when Flacco’ing a team ranks so highly, but this was a penalty worth almost half of the field with the Patriots up by 7 in the 2nd quarter.
Philadelphia wide receiver Riley Cooper batted the ensuing onside kick out of bound and then caught a 14-yard pass from Sam Bradford on third-and-11, seemingly allowing the Eagles to run out the clock. The quarterback only threw for 120 yards last week, but he completed two touchdown passes and avoided the fatal turnover.
Brady was asked just that question on WEEI-FM’s “Dennis and Callahan Show”, on Monday morning, and had a rather odd answer.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, like so many other athletes who are among the best in their sport, appears to be his own harshest critic.
“But we’ve got to stop the run against Buffalo”. After beating the Patriots on the road, the Eagles should be pretty confident they can beat anybody down the stretch. However, Chandler has clearly seen an increase in passes since the Denver game in which Gronk went down.
The message: “Just to have that belief. He gave us all he had on every play, and we needed that”. I wouldn’t expect him or the team to listen to the talk about resting him until the playoffs, because mostly, its just not practical.
That’s what happened, and the rest of the Eagles echoed his message.
“Anybody who said our confidence was low was probably outside our building”, safety Malcolm Jenkins said after his 99-yard interception return was a key to the win. “We were confident in what we do because we have seen it in the past”.
The Patriots took a 14-0 lead before Philadelphia scored five straight touchdowns.
The Patriots, who have fallen outside the top-two teams in the ESPN NFL Power Rankings for the first time since Week 9 of last season, have quickly turned things around after losing streaks in the Bill Belichick/Tom Brady era. “They threw stuff at us that we didn’t”.
