Spectre eclipses Skyfall with record takings on opening day
After 007’s blatantly absurd trip into space in Moonraker the producers of the series wisely made a decision to bring James Bond back down to Earth in every manner of speaking and the result is the best Bond film of the 80s.
The film was also released across the United Kingdom on its premiere day, a week before its November 6 release in North America. Craig’s Bond stripped back the character to its very bones and then reworked it into something familiar but new. The Spectre Seamaster 300 is the first time that a watch worn by Bond has also been officially released to the general public as a limited edition purchase.
So flamboyance is what it take to be a Bond, Daniel? “I…”
Spectre is also making an impact on IMAX.
It was October 2005 when James Bond fans first heard of the “next Bond” to take Pierce Brosnan’s place – and the reaction wasn’t quite ecstatic.
Luke Evans is an actor who has seen his star rocket over the last few years and could well be in the mix when the casting for the new James Bond starts.
James Bond actor Daniel Craig (pix) on Friday urged European governments to “step forward and sort out” the migrant crisis tormenting the continent. Acclaimed director Sam Mendes led the charge with a film that not only paid tribute to Bond’s past but paved the way for an exciting new future with a new M, Moneypenny, and Q all finally coming together for the modern era.
Other players like Universal, Paramount, Disney and Lionsgate have little interest or value in chasing Bond.
I have worked as an agent for the British secret service and as a double agent for the Soviet secret service so I know what I am talking about.
“What we’ve got here is a kind of creation myth at play”, Mendes said. We are creating our own version.
“Because the franchise was set up in a mold set by the great composer John Berry over a dozen films, a classic sound developed which has held steady for the most part”, he says.
When it comes to casting a successor to Daniel Craig, for me, there is only one name in the running… and that is Tom Hardy. I’ve lived it, it’s not fun and it’s not a game. Mostly, it is a series of unconnected and self-contained stories about a cast of established characters that can change when required.
