‘Spectre’ sets explosive new wold record
“One thing I am certain of is that the Bond franchise is as healthy and strong as ever”.
The film reintroduces James Bond’s traditional archenemy, Ernst Blofeld, leader of the mysterious organization known as SPECTRE from which the film takes its title.
The newest film features the return of actor Daniel Craig as Bond, Craig’s fourth outing as the spy, and co-stars Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Christoph Waltz, and Dave Bautista. The film opens with an intense parkour action scene as Bond chases an African bomb maker through a construction site. With somehow a certain tone, he declared, “I think we’ve got Daniel Craig”. With 2008’s “Quantum of Solace”, however, the plot was directly set in motion by the events of 2006’s “Casino Royale”, during which Bond’s love interest Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) was killed. Bond discovers Spectre’s plans and learns that it’s run by Franz Oberhauser, the son of the man who adopted him.
Speaking at the press conference, Barbara Broccoli, the producer of “Spectre” shows her satisfaction with the film’s box office takings so far. Even with the big explosion, it failed to blow away the $88.4 million brought in by the last Bond movie Skyfall in 2012.
Now showing across the Philippines, “Spectre” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing worldwide.
Spectre also reintroduces humour into the series, something the filmmakers have avoided in the Craig era, which gives it a classic Bond feel. Bond and Q’s relationship is similar to the most popular guy in school getting the guy who really wants to be popular to do what the popular guy wants him to do. The film garnered more than $60 million during its launch in the United Kingdom last month, according to the Daily Mail. There is a good level of brooding, the typical suave nature of a Bond, but there was also a level of enjoyment to Craig’s performance.
“Spectre” can most likely be seen as a transition film for the series between “Skyfall” and whatever may follow. So if you like fast cars, lovely women, great action sequences and a main character who could make a sneeze look classy, then “Spectre” is well worth the price of admission.
