‘Spectre’ sets record for largest stunt explosion
Composer John Barry created the Bond theme genre with this mix of high-end horn flourishes and over-the-top, dramatic vocals from Bassey that captured the stylish, flirty tone of the films.
Written by John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, “Spectre” hits theaters on November 6, 2015. With somehow a certain tone, he declared, “I think we’ve got Daniel Craig”.
Meanwhile, if recent figures are anything to go by, Daniel Craig is probably rubbing his hands with glee.
Coming Soon reports that the latest James Bond movie, Spectre, has broken the Guinness World Record for the Largest Film Stunt Explosion.
Although the film isn’t as suspenseful as the previous “Skyfall”, “Spectre” lives up to its powerful legacy and name, keeping the audience “shaken, not stirred” and yearning for the next riveting chapter of Bond’s adventurous escapades. It’s a movie that feels like it’s trying to be everything for all Bond fans, while also trying to make old things new again, and it fails on both counts.
M, played by Ralph Fiennes, has a larger role this time as MI6 is under siege from within, and for a change, M steps into the field. In interviews, Bellucci has said she was “a bit confused” about being approached to do the film at first, but that Mendes assured her that “they actually wanted a mature woman on the screen”.
BEING the culmination of the last three Daniel Craig-starring films that injected a gritty shot of adrenaline into the long-running James Bond series, a 148-minute running time seems justifiable for Spectre.
Asked if he thought he would be back, he said on Watch What Happens Live: “We are all hoping he will but we just don’t know”. The 24th Bond film features the largest film detonation of all time, with 70 tons of TNT used.
Part of the problem is Oberhauser, who is unimaginative and typical (his character, too, is a nod to a ’60s Bond villain). The Spectre explosion, though bloated, may not pack the emotional impact of explosions past.
The big question is, what will Bond and Craig do next? This is somehow a bold statement as before the film came out, Craig has been very expressive with his relief to finally be over with the franchise.
