Speeding Mercedes runs over 5 in Mumbai, driver arrested

A Mercedes vehicle ran over five people sleeping on the road-side, which included four women and a child.

According to the police, Amin Yusuf Khan, 41, was driving the white Mercedes, with a Jharkhand number plate.

Munira’s husband Ramzan, who is a truck driver, said the family generally sleeps below the J J flyover along with many others who have made the place their home.

“We were sleeping when at around 12.30 am we heard a loud sound and the next minute a auto that was parked next to us ran us over”, said Munira who has been admitted to JJ Hospital with a fractured shoulder. “It can be determined only after thorough investigation”, said Ashok Dudhe, a senior police officer. One of the doctors at JJ Hospital said that they were checking the nature of injuries.

He was also booked by the Byculla police in 2015 in an attempted murder case.

He will be produced in a court today, police said, adding that Khan was detained at around 1.30 am and formally arrested at around 4 am after spot punchanama was completed.
