Speedo and Misfit Team Up For a Swimming-Focused Fitness Tracker
Of course given that there is no interface on the tracker itself, it can’t deliver that information while you are actually in the pool, meaning that if you intend to do 50 lengths you will still have to try and count. However if you’re a swimmer, those options are considerably reduced, although recently we’ve started to see more OEMs include features for swimmers. And to help fill that void, Misfit and Speedo have just announced a new device designed specifically for swimmers.
It uses similar hardware to the firm’s earlier Shine – which was already waterproof – but adds new algorithms to its firmware, which were developed with sportswear-maker Speedo.
Speedo Shine syncs with the Misfit app for iOS and Android and displays laps and swim distance, along with calories burned and points earned. The Misfit Shine is already one of a handful of fitness trackers that can be used while swimming.
It doesn’t require charging, and can be bought in retail exclusively at Apple stores worldwide on September 1, as well as on misfit.com and SpeedoUSA.com, for $79.99 (£51).
Performing lap upon lap of a pool is a fairly hypnotic activity, and it’s easy to lose count and focus of how many times you’ve trailed up and down through the water – this is something the two companies are hoping to change with the Speedo Shine. There’ll also be third party app support on the way so you can store data in Speedo Fit, the swimming brand’s own personalised smartphone application.
Speedo Shine is made out of durable and handsome aircraft-grade aluminum and is offered in new light silver color, Pure.
This version of Shine is trying to be a better swim tracker. It’s also not just for swimming as it can track all kinds of other activities too, like walking, running, cycling, sleeping and more.
