Speedway rider Lewis Kerr in induced coma at Addenbrooke’s after crash in
The pregnant wife of Newcastle speedway star Lewis Kerr, who was left in a coma by a horrific crash on Sunday, has thanked well-wishers as she waits by his bedside for more news of his condition.
The incident happened in Heat Three of the Grand Final of the Premier League Fours where Kerr was involved in a high speed crash with Somerset’s Josh Grajczonek in the third and fourth bend.
“The meeting was abandoned by referee Stuart Wilson whilst treatment was taking place, with total agreement of all team managers and riders present”.
“The paramedic and his team here were superb and gave Lewis the very best of attention on the track but also realised that it was important to get him to hospital as soon as possible”.
“There was no alternative but to abandon the meeting, said a statement from the British Speedway Promoters Association”.
Young Stars boss Dale Allitt, who was at the event, said: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the sport as a whole are with Lewis”.
Mr Kerr, born and raised in Snettisham, is a popular figure in the British scene after progressing through the ranks at Lynn to make his senior Elite League debut last season.
He added: “Our thoughts are with Lewis and his family, and we wish him a full, successful and speedy recovery”.
After the crash happened the rest of the riders did not continue the race.
“Our information at this stage is that he is in an induced coma and as and when any further updates are available we will issue further bulletins”.
His wife Jessie also said on his Twitter, she thanks everybody and the speedway world has been incredible.
