Spelman College Terminates Professorship Funded by Cosbys
Cosby’s own words, while not damning evidence in and of themselves, were seen by the public and the media as halfway to proving what the women accusing him of drugging and raping them were saying.
The cash was contributed by the Cosby family in 1988 for the womenis school as well as the professorship was established within the brand of Cosby Camille, and his spouse.
Now the college has taken the definitive position of discontinuing the endowed position, officially called the William and Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Endowed Professorship, USA Today reports.
Spelman initially suspended the professorship in December.
The New York Times recently published a deposition from Cosby in a case from 2005, which was settled privately, in which he admitted to acquiring drugs to give to women with the intent to have sex with them, though he claims it was consensual.
Spelman College is the latest establishment to cut ties with Bill Cosby.
Cosby’s daughters both attended the college. At the time it was the largest ever personal gift to a historically black college or university.
Last November as accusations rolled in, the Berklee College of Music removed Cosby’s name from a scholarship, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst said Cosby would leave a $300 million fundraising campaign, of which he was honorary co-chair.
CNN was unable to reach representatives for the college or Cosby representatives. “Consequently, we will suspend the program until such time that the original goals can again be met”.
