Spicer: ‘We will have the votes necessary’ to repeal ObamaCare
Trump administration officials hit the talk shows on Sunday and delivered some insane excuses for why the CBO is expected to conclude that replacing Obamacare will take health care away from millions. Until then, it’s hard to know what to expect. Some of those are the shift from a fee-for-service payment model to value-based reimbursement; a rise in high deductible plans and increased consumer responsibility; and partnerships between health care entities like hospitals, ambulance services and nursing homes.
Many worry that while some conditions are covered under the replacement proposal, insurance companies may be able to charge more for people who are recently uninsured.
And I tell Tom Price and I tell Paul Ryan, I tell every one of ’em, I say the best thing you can do politically is wait a year because it’s gonna blow itself off the map.
“The reductions in insurance coverage between 2018 and 2026 would stem in large part from changes in Medicaid enrollment-because some states would discontinue their expansion of eligibility, some states that would have expanded eligibility in the future would choose not to do so, and per-enrollee spending in the program would be capped”, said the report. As a healthy person, prior to the ACA I was considering a catastrophic health insurance plan that would have cost $5,000 a year and provided far worse coverage than that provided under the ACA. House conservatives vowed to block the bill as “Obamacare Lite” unless there are more restrictions, even as a Republican, Sen. “And that in 2020 or 2024, the American people look at health care system that’s collapsing and vote a Democrat in who says the only answer is single-payer health care”. If CBO isn’t going to deliver good news, it shouldn’t say anything at all.
The bill would no longer require that Americans buy health insurance, and it would eliminate the current subsidies that are used to bring down the cost of premiums. The president’s use of what White House adviser Kellyanne Conway calls “alternative facts” – aka falsehoods – has been mimicked across his administration and by Republicans in Congress.
Late last week House Speaker Paul Ryan, who is on the same page as the White House in support of the bill, literally rolled up his sleeves on Capitol Hill and warned fellow Republicans they have a binary choice to make. “An equitable system which we should be trying to get to is coverage for everyone”, Dr. McMillen said.
Forget yesterday’s news. Get what you need today in this early-morning email. “So, we feel an obligation to step in front of that collapse and replace this law with one that works, that has more freedom”.
The CBO report may bolster arguments against the highly contested bill, which is already opposed by many Republicans for a variety of reasons.
Still, the CBO did correctly predict other aspects of Obamacare, including premium levels and the cost of subsidies to help people buy insurance, said Douglas Elmendorf, CBO director when the office estimated the effects of Obamacare, which Congress passed in 2010.
