Spieth gets kick out of bobblehead at Pebble

“But I would rather take a win and us get second than us win and me get second”. If it goes on, great. On the third tee, he jerked his drive well left onto the adjoining fourth fairway. That means the tee shot plays 16 yards uphill!

It’s been even longer for Lott, who nevertheless looked like he could strap on a uniform today and make an impact for the 49ers.

“The important thing is I’m healthier now and ready to move on”, Day said.

The big-hitting Kentucky native has garnered three top-eight finishes in his last four tournaments.

“We look at that as a huge success from a conservation perspective”, said Barbara Buikema, general manager of the Carmel Area Wastewater District. This is the best week I’ve ever seen. Oh, and it’s an even year.

“I don’t know, but it’s February”, he said.

The youngster earned 26 non-member FedEx Cup points as he strives to get past his first goal of gaining 361 points in his allowable seven USA tour starts. “That (his scare last spring) was a wake-up call, it does make you start to watch it a little bit”. Dustin Johnson plays with Wayne Gretzky, his future father-in-law.

A year ago, he was No. 9 in the world and still had only one PGA Tour victory on his ledger.

Other star players in the field included five-time major champion Phil Mickelson, a graduate of the local Arizona State University, two-time Masters victor Bubba Watson and reigning Open champion Zach Johnson.

Each team plays one round at Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Monterrey Peninsular Country Club over the first three days, with the leading 25 pro-am teams and top 60 professionals and ties returning for the final round at Pebble Beach on Sunday. He again has Owen as his amateur partner. But Spieth came up short on the last hole when his capacity for being clutch failed and he lost 1 down.

The Pebble Beach event has a hard act to follow after last weekend’s playoff battle between Hideki Matsuyama and Rickie Fowler at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Mickelson is making his 20th appearance in the event after having to pull out at the last minute in 2015, ending his string of 19 straight entries.

What you probably didn’t know, however, is that the guy can sometimes call his shot – and that he’s used that prescience to win himself some money from his golf buddies.

The first few months of the new years has brought discussion of a Big 4… and everyone else.
