Sportscaster’s father says Erin Andrews a ‘shell’ of herself
Andrews’ lawsuit stems from a 2008 incident in which she was secretly videotaped naked inside of her hotel room at the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University.
He says his daughter didn’t want to eat, bathe or be around people after discovering that nude videos of her getting dressed in her hotel room had been posted online. That has now changed, he said, remarking, “She’s afraid”.
Here, watch the first day of Erin Andrews in the court and a glimpse on the opening statements delivered by the attorneys of both sides.
“This is so humiliating to her – and it continues”, Kinnard said of Andrews invasion of privacy, which ended up in at least one video uploaded online in 2008.
Far from the confident reporter people see on TV, Erin Andrews has become a “depressed” person who is “afraid of people”, her father told a Nashville courtroom Wednesday.
Barrett was sentenced to serve 2 ½ years in prison.
Richard Shiro/AP Erin Andrews is suing Michael David Barrett and two Nashville hotel companies for the 2009 nude video leak. The Marriott hotel gave him the room next to hers at his request. According to the suit, Andrews learned of the videos that month.
Erin Andrews cried throughout her father’s testimony and he choked up several times on the stand.
During a cross examination by the hotel’s lawyer, Rivera-Keen claimed the local hotel never actually received Barrett’s request.
The father told the jury that before a stalker made the secret recordings, Erin Andrews was always fun, always joking, and that she was happy and successful in her career as a sportscaster at ESPN. Her attorneys are alleging that Barrett was told of her room number and allowed to book his own room next to it, enabling his plan to rig a camera to film her through a peephole.
Erin Andrews began crying again as her father talked about her concern of being fired after the video of her was uploaded to the Internet.
Marc Dedman, the attorney for the hotel, called Barrett a serial stalker and placed the blame squarely on him.
His daughter, who now works for Fox Sports and also hosts the reality show “Dancing with the Stars”, was visibly emotional during the testimony.
