Spotify partners with Beatport to bring curated playlist
It’s more than just a musical partnership: earlier this year, Spotify announced a plan to move into video, and Consiglio believes Beatport has a lot to contribute to this effort as well. That money has also been spent lavishly on festivals where SFX dominates the mainstream market globally. The Verge got the goods on Spotify’s new deal with streaming service BeatPort, which would allow the people behind Spotify to add Human-curated playlists to their repertoire.
Meanwhile, one hedge fund, Maglan Capital, suggested that appointing Consiglio as the new Beatport boss this week in advance of the buyout could be a sign that SFX was considering “maybe selling Beatport separately”. “We’re taking that expertise to Spotify – we’ll be curating unique weekly playlists that really only Beatport can do”. The deal will see music and video from Beatport appearing on a new “electronic music destination” within Spotify, including some material that’s previously been exclusive to Beatport. But it’s a first step in Spotify trying to retain its position as the leader of subscription streaming music services. The EDM service says it adds about 25,000 new tracks a week to its roster.
“They bring some interesting and unique content opportunities to the table”, said Sachin Doshi, Spotify vice president of content and distribution, to Billboard. He said, “Two billion times every month, our listeners discover an artist they’ve never heard of through a Spotify playlist”. Except as required by applicable law, SFX undertakes no obligation to update forward-looking statements to reflect events or circumstances after the date thereof.
SFX Entertainment, Inc. SFXE, +0.96% is the largest global producer of live events and digital entertainment content focused exclusively on electronic music culture (EMC) and other world-class festivals. SFX’s mission is to provide electronic music fans with the best possible live experiences, music discovery, media and digital connectivity. “I am really excited to take on this critical role within SFX and Beatport to help drive our vision forward as the Home of Electronic Music”. Since then it’s accrued 5 million registered users. The result would be the first ever partnership for Spotify with another streaming service.
