Sprint Has More Data Options for DirecTV Customers Who Switch
Sprint is calling the deal a celebration of the merger between DirecTV and AT&T, but it’s not exactly bringing its rival a cake.
Less than a week after Sprint dangled free mobile service in front of DirecTV customers in a bid to swipe them from under AT&T’s nose, the operator has upped the ante by offering prospective customers a choice of larger monthly data allowances.
“DirecTV customers switching to Sprint told us they want additional data options”, said Kevin Crull (pictured), chief marketing officer at Sprint.
Sprint last week rather cleverly tried to lure DirecTV (now AT&T) customers to Sprint by offering them a year’s worth of service for free. But the offer is available now through September 30. “With Sprint’s network and the many asterisks on this deal, we’re feeling good about our offers”. They will also be required to pay for their respective wireless package after 12 months, which would be $180 for five lines, $150 for four lines, $120 for three lines, $90 for two lines, and $50 for a single line, per month. Then, they can go to Sprint.com or call Sprint Telesales to obtain the offer. Customers can also visit their local Sprint stores and log on to their DirecTV accounts online to show verification and take the company up on its offer.
For those now on contract with another company, Sprint will pay off your old phone and contract.
Here’s how it works: Qualified DirecTV customers can upload a recent DirecTV bill at www.sprint.com/directvoffer. Sprint normally charges $60 a month for unlimited talk, text, and data, plus the cost of your phone.
We caught up with Jeff Kagan, an independent industry analyst, to get his thoughts on the beefed up Sprint deal. Qualifying customers are allowed to subscribe to a minimum of one and maximum of five phone lines.
While Sprint’s offer may look more alluring to customers, there are still reasons why some customers might favor AT&T’s bundled services over Sprint. Sprint is stabilizing its ship and growing.
Following the deal, AT&T announced a promotional bundle which offers a discount of monthly $10 to customers on their combined bill for wireless phone and video service. Or, customers can choose additional data options starting at $10 per line for 4GB of data. Sprint served more than 57 million connections as of June 30, 2015 and is widely recognized for developing, engineering and deploying innovative technologies, including the first wireless 4G service from a national carrier in the United States; leading no-contract brands including Virgin Mobile U.S., Boost Mobile, and Assurance Wireless; instant national and worldwide push-to-talk capabilities; and a global Tier 1 Internet backbone. “We are giving our customers the ability to stay connected worry-free”.
