Sprint Latest Carrier To Offer Free global Calls, Texts
Sprint Open World has no base plan restrictions, and is targeted at U.S. customers who frequently travel to Canada and Mexico, or make long-distance calls from the States to Canada, Mexico and Latin American countries.
While T-Mobile has broken down its borders, Sprint is also going down the same path with the launch of its own Sprint Open World plans.
Meanwhile, south of the border America Movil presented its Without Borders plan that allows users to make calls to the U.S.at local rates and to use their bundled voice minutes, SMS and data while roaming in the U.S.
Sprint is taking a page out of rival T-Mobile’s book with free calling and texting to Canada and Mexico.
Sprint’s total roaming footprint now includes 34 countries worldwide. And when you’re traveling outside of the US, you can get free unlimited calls and texts when you’re in Canada, Mexico, and “more than a dozen Latin American countries”. Management also aims to offer similar roaming free wireless connectivity in Canada over the long haul. AT&T, the second-largest wireless carrier in the US, in January acquired Mexican carriers Iusacell for $2.5 billion and Nextel Mexico for $1.875 billion.
Similarly, for Sprint customers traveling to Asia, Middle East or Europe, Open World will offer free text messages and calls at $0.20 per minute. In July, competitor T-Mobile added free calling, texting and 4G LTE data to and from Canada and Mexico for all customers who have Simple Choice mobile calling plans with the carrier. For customers, its good news all along as more such plans will ensure that they do not have to go through the agony of paying huge data roaming bills. The name countries of Latin America, where you can use Sprint this plan are Argentina, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, Honduras and Paraguay. The carrier has announced that it will provide 1GB of free 3G data to all customers traveling to the aforementioned countries.
Sprint’s Open World is available now. Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela and Uruguay will be added to the list soon.
