Spurs excited for season at media day
NBATV caught up with Pop to talk about the upcoming season, and the Spurs head coach used a few questions about newcomer LaMarcus Aldridge as an opportunity to ideal the art of making reporters feel really uncomfortable.
National Basketball Association TV reporter Jared Greenberg asks him about his beard at the beginning of an interview and it goes downhill from there… until Popovich admits he’s just screwing with Greenberg.
Secondly, Boban Marjanovic, who I can confirm is not one normal-sized human standing on the shoulders of another, is completely recovered from the foot injury that kept him from competing for Serbia according to Gregg Popovich and he should be a full participant in camp from the outset. “I think that’s the thing”.
For the San Antonio Spurs coach, that means practicing what he’s best at: Getting in midseason form with his in-game interviews.
The whole segment was “painfully awkward” in the way Larry David made us gawk during episodes of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” or how Steve Carrell forced us to nervously LOL during scenes from “The Office”.
If anything though, he’s become too self-aware of his pervasive saltiness.
That’s the subtle stuff, the secret glue that has held the Spurs together for all these years.
Greenberg took the abuse like a champion and got through the interview without cracking.
“I was already thinking about coming here and wanting to be a part of this environment that I’ve heard so much about”, West said.
Ah, classic Pop. The National Basketball Association is almost back.
