Spurs signing Moussa Sissoko: I was never joining Everton
The transfer deadline slammed shut last night with James McCarthy hoping that Everton’s failure to seal the transfer of Newcastle defensive midfielder Moussa Sissoko will rejuvenate his flagging Everton Career.
Although Sissoko did not sign on at Goodison Park there was one new arrival before the deadline, with Enner Valencia moving on loan from West Ham. But I was in London, waiting to sign my contract [with Spurs]. I’m sure Hugo was bending the ears of all kinds of his French teammates while he was on worldwide duty in this summer’s Euros.
“I’m really delighted to sign for this team”, Nkoudou said.
“I never went to Everton”, Sissoko insisted after featuring in France’s 3-1 win over Italy on Thursday.
He played several times for France during Euro 2016 and elevated his profile with some impressive displays as he helped his country reach the final before they lost to Portugal. Very few players end up signing for the club they support.
Should Sissoko leave he will join Georginio Wijnaldum, Andros Townsend, Daryl Janmaat and Papiss Cisse in quitting Newcastle since their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship. Sissoko, obviously preferring to play in the Champions League, picked Tottenham quickly and turned off his phone.
“I think it’s an bad lot of money for a player who struggled for consistency in his three years at Newcastle”, Keown told the Daily Mail.
The Magpies’ boss Rafael Benitez said of Sissoko earlier this month: “If we are happy with the price and he is happy, then we can maybe consider”. It’s more than just a giant stadium upgrade, Tottenham is looking to revitalize a whole neighborhood and they just couldn’t spend a ton of money on new players this summer.
“Fans will know that sometimes the team spirit was not strong last season, and that was part of the problem why we got relegated”.
