Srinagar records coldest night so far, its freezing in Kashmir
Kokernag, in south, was the only recorded place in Kashmir Valley where the minimum temperature stayed above the freezing point at 0.8 degree Celsius, he said. “Today was the coldest night of the season so far in Srinagar as the minimum temperature dropped to minus 0.5 degree Celsius”, the weather official told IANS on Saturday morning.
Ski resort of Gulmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla recorded minus 4.6 degree Celsius against minus 3.8 degree the previous night while tourist resort Pahalgam, which serves as a base camp during the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, recorded minus 3.7 degree Celsius against Friday night’s minus 3.5 degrees, he said. The sunshine was mild in Srinagar on Monday morning.
In the Jammu area, the minimal temperatures have been usually above the freezing level.
The minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar was minus 0.9 degrees Celsius – one degree below normal during this part of the season.
The MET Office has said the weather is likely to remain dry over the next week and there is possibility of further drop in the temperature.
“We are expecting a partly sunny day in Srinagar on Monday, with a maximum temperature hovering around 13 degrees Celsius”, the weather official said. In Jammu city, it was 10.6 degrees Celsius, 11.3 in Katra town, 0.5 in Banihal, 4.9 in Batote and 2.3 in Bhaderwah towns of Jammu region, the official added.
The official said Kargil recorded the lowest overnight temperature in Jammu and Kashmir at minus 9.7 degrees.
