Speaking of parades, the first St. Patrick’s Day parades were held in the USA, with the one in New York City dating back to 1762.
Yep, it’s St. Patrick’s Day, when Irish displays in stores across the country are picked over, with people purchasing paper or plastic shamrocks, green derbies and “Kiss me, I’m Irish” buttons.
For a more traditional St. Patrick’s Day, there are some great Irish classics to choose from.
While some see no historical link between St Patrick and the shamrock, some sources claim that Saint Patrick was one of the early Christian leaders to use the plant as a symbol of the Holy Trinity. This is done as a commemoration of St Patrick’s Day, a yearly event that celebrates Irish culture and history.

What I find fascinating about the story of Patrick’s life is that, despite going through such heartbreak and trauma from his kidnapping and slavery, he responded to the vision of being called back to Ireland. They were of Irish descent from a small populated town of 90 in Ireland.
For more than a decade now, the celebration features Irish dancing, a bag pipe player and of course plenty of cases of Guinness. In Irish mythology, a leprechaun is a type of male faerie said to inhabit the island of Ireland. Until the rebellion, the color associated with St. Patrick was blue, since that color was featured on ancient Irish flags and in the royal court of Ireland.
Nine men of Irish ancestry signed the Declaration of Independence.
Her husband, Bill Hughes, a retired police officer who marched in the parade for 10 years, looked on as a band marched by. The 68-year-old says his parents were both Irish but he likes that the parade honors all nationalities.
In the US, only Suffolk County, Massachusetts, which includes Boston, has officially made St. Patrick’s Day a public holiday.
Shamrocks are the national flower/emblem of Ireland.
Literally thousands of parades, fun runs, festivals, concerts and the like will be held throughout the U.S.
