Stacey Dash’s ‘Happy Black History Month’ Joke at Oscars 2016 Falls Flat
You know, Stacey Dash-the Fox News commentator who called the wage gap “an excuse” and rape victims “bad girls who like to be naughty”, who protested the existence of Black History Month, and who disagree with her colleagues who called for an Oscars boycott.
This comes on the heels of Ms. Dash stating in an interview that Black History Month and the Black Entertainment Television should be done away with.
Rock quickly moved on with the ceremony after the joke fell flat.
Dash explained her presence at the Oscar’s in a lengthy blog post, outlining her contrarian position.
What did you think of Dash’s surprise appearance?
John Legend took to Twitter to point out that Dash made Chrissy Teigen cringe (see photo evidence below), and Shonda Rhimes also put in her two cents.
She was jokingly introduced by host Chris Rock as director of the Oscar’s minority outreach program. Then someone else took the stage: Stacey Dash.
There were lighter moments at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday evening, on February 28. Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation, then we have to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black. With Stacey first appearing in movies like Moving, with Richard Pryor, and gaining fame with cult favorites like Clueless, Dash generally stars in films that aren’t the kind usually that would bring Stacey to the Oscars stage. If it were the other way around, we’d be up in arms. “Happy Black History Month!” “It’s a double standard”.
