Stafford, Prater drive Lions past Saints
Other than Marcus Peters, the rest of Kansas City’s secondary has really struggled in coverage, and since Peters doesn’t shadow, the Falcons can move Julio Jones all over the field.
The Detroit Lions had the NFL’s worst rushing offense a year ago, but the franchise completed 150 yards on the ground in a win over the New Orleans Saints. The Lions also are in a position to win their first division title since 1993, when they were part of the NFC Central before divisions were realigned in 2002.
The Detroit Lions have been the NFL’s ultimate escape artists this season. If you’re looking to pay up at the Quarterback position, Brees is definitely your guy this week. “He can generate some points, particularly at home”.
Some observers believe that the absence of “Megatron” has actually caused Matthew Stafford to be a more effective quarterback, forcing him to spread the ball around – and the result has been a much more efficient passing game. He is quickly becoming one of the best players on a Saints defense that has gotten better since his return from injury.
Detroit opened up the second half with a 10-play, 63-yard drive but settled for another field goal, Prater’s 32-yarder putting them up 16-6. Thankfully for the stress levels of Lions fans, Detroit found a way to win without staging a late comeback against the Saints. If there was any disappointment, it was that the Saints defender got through unblocked to blow up the run by Theo Riddick. Michael Thomas has emerged as his top receiver with 65 catches for 789 yards and seven scores.
“We would have had momentum from the get-go”, said Moore. He walked off but then ran straight to the locker room. Running back Mark Ingram needs to continue being involved and run like a man on fire, while Brees continues completing passes at a high rate.
Speaking of the New Orleans community’s next biggest threat to owner Tom Benson’s to economic prowess in the region, it’s going to be interesting to see how many targets Cooks gets this week after complaining about being shut out in last week’s 49-point performance. Stafford’s pass to T.J. Jones on a 2-point attempt fell incomplete. He also threw three interceptions while completing 31 of 44 passes for 326 yards (most of which came in catch-up mode).
The Saints’ offense has had some unforced errors, most notably a bad shotgun snap on a third-and-1 that forced a punt. “The thing I know is it’s Drew Brees”.
Saints coach Sean Payton has experienced clutch envy while studying the Lions this season.
