Stage version of ‘Frozen’ to be directed by Broadway veteran
Big news for Frozen fans!
The announcement was made on the newly minted Frozen on Broadway Twitter account.
The show will add to Disney’s already robust Broadway repertoire, which includes “Aladdin” and “The Lion King“.
The movie tells the story of two siblings – Elsa, who harbors the power to create ice and snow, and her sister, Anna.
Alex Timbers, who has staged shows as diverse as “Peter and the Starcatcher” and “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” will direct “Frozen”, Disney said.
The music for the Broadway musical will be written by the film’s composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and the book will be written by Jennifer Lee, the film’s screenwriter and co-director.
The film won Oscars in 2014 for Best Song (“Let It Go”) and Best Animated Feature.
The show will have sets by seven-time Tony victor Bob Crowley, choreography by Peter Darling, lighting by five-time Tony victor Natasha Katz and sound design by four-time Tony nominee Peter Hylenski. The score is in the hands of master orchestrator Stephen Oremus (Avenue Q, Wicked, The Book of Mormon), who serves as music director.
“Frozen” has earned Disney more than $1.27 billion at the box office worldwide, becoming the most successful animated movie of all time. Frozen will play its out-of-town tryout beginning in summer 2017 at a theatre to be announced, Disney Theatrical Productions announced.
