Victoria Azarenka of Belarus reacts after defeating Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic in their fourth round match at the Australian Open tennis championships in Melbourne, Australia, Monday, Jan. 25, 2016. The third set witnessed Tomic attempting to bounce-back after losing both the sets before, but still fell short leaving the supporters disappointed. It was not immediately apparent what was affecting her.
Monfils leads their head to head 2-0, but they haven’t played since the grass court tournament in Halle 2013. She beat Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
“Can somebody please tell me, did Broncos win?” she said, taking over her on-court TV interview. First of all, congrats to Annika for an wonderful week, well done to her. She’s a great player with great future.
It’s the second straight year Raonic has made the quarters in Melbourne. Andy Murray advanced from his fourth round against Bernard Tomic.
“The last few days were very, very tough”.

Andy Murray says he would have pulled out of the Australian Open had his father-in-law’s health deteriorated following his collapse at Rod Laver Arena.
“I just can’t believe something like that happened”.
It is tough to know whether Murray will find tennis a release or a distraction going forward. It s shocking. Nige is an unbelievably fit guy. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and stayed overnight, but has been released.
Speaking after the match, Raonic said that this win was the next step for him to try and achieve his goals. “As the day sort of went on, and I chose to play, I started to focus a little bit better”.
“Certainly I was trying to just concentrate on the match when I was out there, but it’s been a hard, hard few days”.
Next up for Murray will be No. 8 David Ferrer, a two-time semifinalist, who held off No. 10-seeded John Isner 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
Wawrinka was the only man to beat top-ranked Novak Djokovic in a Grand Slam match previous year – the French Open final – and the last man to beat him at Melbourne Park since 2010.
Raonic will next meet No. 23 seed Gael Monfils, who booked his first Australian Open quarterfinal appearance with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) win over Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov.
Monfils delighted the Margaret Court Arena crowd with his acrobatic game, including a full-stretch dive that resulted in him needing an injury timeout for treatment on his right hand.
Azarenka next plays German seventh seed Angelique Kerber who she thrashed in the Brisbane International final.
On Wednesday Konta will battle Chinese qualifier Zhang Shuai.
Monfils hit 44 winners to just 32 unforced errors to reach the Australian Open quarters for the first time in his career. Wawrinka did this to get back at Raonic for changing his shoes the game before. While Wawrinka rallied back in the third and fourth sets to equalise the match at two sets apiece, a decisive break in the sixth game of the final set gave Raonic the advantage over the fourth seed.
“He’s a really good player, you know”, Wawrinka said.
