Stand-off over after Tennessee deputy shot in the head
Sgt. Michael Carlock with Carter County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that another person, along with the CCSO deputy, was also shot Wednesday.
Officials said there was no exchange of words between the man and officers before he fired off 30 to 40 rounds.
Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford told reporters Kelly Pitts of Hickory, N.C., was armed when he was found by deputies in the cave, but was taken into custody without incident.
Early Wednesday morning, Deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office responded to 109 Townsend Circle, Johnson City TN to a call of a structure fire.
Lunceford says Deputy Jenna Markland was graved on the side of her forehead and above her mouth by two bullets.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting. She was said to be alert at an area hospital.
Lunceford said during the news conference that deputies were attempting to make entry into the trailer and were unsure if the shooter was still inside.
